• In July 2024, Mondi has announced its strategic partnership with CMC Packaging Automation, a global leader in fully automated packaging on-demand solutions. This collaboration designated Mondi as CMC’s preferred kraft paper partner, aiming to develop innovative packaging solutions that leverage the strengths of both companies.
• In July 2024, Smurfit Kappa has successfully completed its acquisition of WestRock, officially establishing Smurfit WestRock as one of the largest packaging companies globally. The merger, which was announced in September 2023, has now taken effect, allowing the new entity to begin trading on the New York and London Stock Exchanges.
• In June 2024, Smurfit Kappa has signed an agreement to acquire Artemis Ltd., a Bag-in-Box packaging plant located in Shumen, Bulgaria. This acquisition will enhance Smurfit Kappa's capabilities in food and beverage packaging, as Artemis specializes in producing bags for Bag-in-Box products, along with films and caps for wine
• In April 2024, International Paper and DS Smith announced that they had reached an agreement on the terms of a recommended all-share combination, creating a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions. The terms of the combination valued each DS Smith share at 415 pence, resulting in International Paper issuing 0.1285 shares for each DS Smith share. The combination was expected to close by the fourth quarter of 2024, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
• In February 2024, Mondi completed the acquisition of the Hinton Pulp mill in Alberta, Canada, from West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd for a total consideration of USD 5 million. This acquisition, finalized in late 2023, included a long-term partnership with West Fraser to secure access to local, high-quality fiber.
• In January 2023, Mondi confirmed the completion of its acquisition of the Duino mill near Trieste, Italy, from the Burgo Group. The mill's strategic location would facilitate the sourcing of recycled paper and supply Mondi's solutions in Central Europe and Turkey, as well as meet growing demand in the local Italian market.
