Sperm Bank Market by Donor type (ID Disclosure, Anonymous, Known), Vial Type (Intrauterine Insemination, Intracervical Insemination, In-Vitro Fertilization), Service (Donor Screening (Genetic Screening), Specimen Storage, Semen Analysis) - Global Forecast to 2023
Sperm Banking is a type of fertility preservation that freezes and store sperms for future use. The sperm banks are responsible for collection, freezing, and storage of human sperms. Sperm banking is mostly opted by men with a possibility of losing fertility due to medical treatment such as cancer, and infertility treatment. Sperm banks play a major role in the women who are not able to conceive. Stored sperms are used couples for infertility treatments such as assisted reproductive technology or in-vitro fertilization.
Rising infertility across the globe has increased the number of couples undergoing ART therapy. According to the 2016 Fertility Clinic Success Rates Report published by CDC, in US, out of the total infants born, approximately 1.7% infants are conceived using ART every year. Thus the rising infertility and development in technologies such as ART, sperm bank market is expected to grow during the forecast period. Additionally, legalization of same sex marriages in most countries is also likely to increase the demand for sperm donors. However, high cost of artificial insemination and assistive reproduction is likely to pose a challenge, inhibiting the growth of the market.
The report segments the sperm bank market based on donor type, type of vials, and by service. On the basis of donor type, the market is divided into ID Disclosure donor, anonymous donor, and known donor. Anonymous donors are the most common as it keeps the donor identity undisclosed, encouraging more donations. However, ID Disclosure donors are gaining popularity as it allows the child to know the identity of his/her biological father once he reaches a certain age. Based on the type of vials, the market is further segmented into intrauterine insemination (IUI), intracervical insemination (ICI), and in-vitro fertilization (IVF). ICI is one of the oldest forms on inseminations, however, with rising infertility complications among couples, IVF is gaining popularity. Further, the market is also segmented on the basis of the services offered by sperm banks into donor screening (genetic screening), specimen storage, semen analysis and other services such as semen preparation and test freeze analysis.
